Raising Hope for Others’ 2016 recipient is Sheila McMahon. She is currently battling Gastroparesis, a disorder where food and nutrition does not pass through Sheila’s stomach to the rest of her digestive system. There is no known cause for this disease unfortunately. Symptoms of this disease are constant stomach pain, malnutrition, nausea and vomiting. After numerous hospital visits, Sheila’s doctors implanted a gastric stimulator and feeding tube. Sheila’s bodyweight had already dropped 26% by this time. She is optimistic that one day she will return to a more normal lifestyle and not have to rely on the feeding tube.
