Marie was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia & Lupus in 2009 followed by Multiple Myeloma in 2010. Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and Lupus are both autoimmune disease meaning the immune system has turned on itself. Lupus causes swelling and inflammation as well as a wide variety of other symptoms including fatigue, skin, kidney and lung problems and painful, swollen joints. Multiple Myeloma is when the plasma cells in the bone marrow become cancerous and multiple. Marie is currently in remission on chemo medication preventative therapy. As a result from the chemo medication she has developed severe bilateral peripheral neuropathy and is now wheelchair bound. Marie is a wife and mother of three who enjoys family activities, entertaining family and friends and being an active member of the school PTO.
